Initiatives & Progams
Choose Healthy Life
Choose Healthy Life was created to address health disparities by providing services such as COVID testing, vaccine awareness and preventative health education in five major US cities: Atlanta, Detroit, Newark, New York, and Washington D.C. DABO is a proud partner of the Choose Healthy Life network.
Trust The Facts, Get The Vax
There are many myths about the COVID vaccination. However, our Community Health Workers are working in the community to dispel those myths, promote healthy choices to save lives, and encourage vaccination against COVID-19. We offer free COVID vaccinations and testing on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am to 1pm.
Your Blood Pressure Matters
Detroit was ranked as the city with the second-highest rate of hypertension with nearly 47% of all adults estimated to have hypertension. Given the alarming rates of hypertension in our community, we’ve developed a remote community-based model for hypertension control without having to go into the doctor’s office. This program operates Monday through Thursday from 9am to 1pm.
Substance Abuse & Suicide Prevention
Families Against Narcotics(FAN)Detroit
FAN creates a support network for those affected by addiction so no family or individual suffers alone. We provide a safe place for our community members to face and learn about addiction from others who have had similar experiences. We provide education through guest speakers, as well as the sharing of personal stories. We meet virtually every second Monday from 6pm – 7pm. The Zoom meeting code is 845 1522 6235.
DABO’s Project Rainbow is a teen suicide prevention program funded by Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN). The program is designed to intervene in the lives of those contemplating suicide and educate others on preventing suicide and recognizing the warning signs. Call to schedule a free 1-hour training.
Mackenzie Noble Community Collaborative Drug-Free Coalition
This program promotes a healthy community by developing strategies to reduce the use and abuse of drugs in the community and the reduction of youth substance abuse in our local area. We host a virtual monthly community meeting every fourth Thursday at 6pm. The Zoom meeting ID is 846 7395 3555.
Prevention Prepared Communities
By partnering with various community sectors we offer a youth prevention services program that utilizes comprehensive community–based substance misuse prevention strategies. DABO has a Community and Youth ATOD Prevention Advisory Board, composed of organizations that provide guidance and insight on implementing its evidence–based programs and mentoring model.
Grand River Oakman Jeffries Business Association
Our overarching goal is to spur business development, provide support for existing businesses, and coordinate programming and cooperation that will result in the improvement of life for area residents, business owners, customers, and our constituents.
In partnership with Comcast, we operate a wi-fi connected “Lift Zone” to help community members attend virtual classes, work remotely, look for jobs, and build digital skills. The new DABO Lift Zone is a safe place to get online for distance learning and work opportunities. Everyone in the community is welcome to come in during business hours to log on to the free Lift Zone network
Property Tax Exemption
Our Home Owners Property Exemption (HOPE) program is also referred to as the Poverty Tax Exemption (PTE) or Hardship program. We help Wayne County homeowners apply for property tax exemption. Eligibility is based on household income or circumstances. For more information, stop by every second Tuesday from 9am to 1pm or every Thursday from 9 am to 1 pm.
